Huka Trapping Update June 2024
Welcome to the June 2024 Huka Trapping News
We’re keeping it short and sweet but let’s begin with some thanks.
As you may know we received grants from Contact and Craters of the Moon Trust to replace the fifty traps lost in Gabrielle. These traps have been installed and our trapping project is definitely back on track!
Big thanks to Contact and Craters of the Moon Trust.
Debs Trapline
Debs trapline runs through Snakes and Ladders, Debs, and Mr & Mrs to end at the connection. It was completed in April and there are around 40 traps for possums, rats and mustelids. It is run by a team of elite trappers – Stu, Frank, Jim and Colin. We usually catch a lot of stuff when we put in a new line and this line is no exception. These are the catches since April:
Cat 1, Stoat 3, Hedgehog 1, Mouse 2, Possum 22, Rat 50, Total pests: 78
We have moved the A24 traps which were in this area, with some others, onto Outback and beyond. After 3 weeks most traps had one or two catches, except the one below- two fresh rats underneath and 11 on the counter!
