Conservation Efforts

Huka Trapping

Conservation and the environment are important parts of the Bike Taupo culture.

Huka Trapping’s mission is to make a significant contribution to the enhancement of bird life within the Waikato River Corridor and Craters Mountain Bike Park through ethical and effective trapping solutions. This will benefit cyclists, the greater Taupo community and the tourism sector by providing an enhanced visitor experience.

We have a comprehensive network of traps in 16 trap lines, maintained weekly by around 50 volunteers. Since June 2018 we have eliminated over 9,000 predators including rats, possums, mustelids, mice, and hedgehogs.

Donations to ensure the sustainability of our project would be much appreciated.
