Your work Counts - latest trapping results.
We thought it would be good to give you a final update for the year and express our sincere thanks for the incredible work effort undertaken.
Our esteemed leader Clyff is doing well with his treatment but is having to lay low for a while so this can be progressed. We have stepped into the fold to help out, so if you have any questions, troubles with gear or need new supplies please contact me (Stu Hutchings) at hukatrapping@biketaupo.org.nz
Trap catches seemed to slow down over the late winter, spring period but have increased again now with some juvenile possums being caught as well.
We have added a series of AT220s along the Great Lake Trail and W2K including the headland loop to assist in catching pests along this iconic cycling track. A map is included below.
When the totals across all our trap lines are looked at for the year, there has been an impressive number of rats, possums and mustelids caught. This is all because of the huge effort undertaken by all our trapper volunteers, so thank you all.
Across the three sets of trap lines we have caught a total of 2958 rats, 988 possums and 53 mustelids over the last 365 days. Adding up our grand total across all lines and all catches it comes to 14,770 pests caught meaning there is a significant reduction in the challenge our native birds face across these areas.
