Taupō MTB Club to host the MTBNZ National MTB Series Jan 18/19th 2025

The Taupō MTB Club are hosting the MTBNZ National MTB Series 2025 - XCO Race 2 the weekend of 18th/19th January 2025 and as a result, there is some important information below regarding track and carpark closures.

There will be a number of track closures on Sunday 19th from dawn to 3pm.  These are listed below. 

The Event Headquarters will be located at the ‘old’ car park off Karapiti Road, so there will be no public parking available there on the Sunday 19th.  

There will be good viewing of the racing at the Event Headquarters, on top of Karapiti Hill and at the Connection.

 The following even operations will take place starting Friday 17th Jan:

 Friday 17th January mid afternoon till dark:

·   Taupō MTB Club members will be taping and marking the course so please leave arrows, signs and tape as you find them.

Saturday 18th January:

·         8.30am onwards MTBNZ and Taupō MTB Club officials will be undertaking the Commissaire Track Walk.

·        Competitors will be practising the course throughout the day and may be stopped and walking parts, especially Cole’s Killer.

·         10.00am – 2.00pm Registration will be taking place at the event headquarters.

Sunday 19th January: RACE DAY

·         9.30am Race #1 briefing.

  • Racing will start at 10am and 1pm.  

·         3.00pm or earlier Race #2 prize giving

·        Taupō MTB Club members will then be decommissioning the course and event head quarters

Car Park Closures:

  • Please note that the ‘old’ car park will be closed on Saturday & Sunday.

    There will be parking on the verge along Karapiti Rd and at the Hub.

 TRACK CLOSURES:

On Sunday the following tracks or parts of tracks will be closed to the public till 3pm:

·         Start of Scraggs Out

·         End of Scraggs Return

·         Hammer It

·         Spyce Girls

·         New link to Tank Stand

·         Tank Stand

·         Coaster

·         Tank Down

·         Snakes N Ladders

·         Buzzard

·         Start of Mr and Mrs up to the entrance to Cole’s Killer

·         Cole’s Killler

·         Spinal Redemption

·         Incline

·         Walters Wiggles

·         Nail It

Access can still be made to Outback trails using the Resort track and returning on the resort track or looping around the park using Waipouwerawera. 

Tourist Trap areas and SH Fun, Cyclonic etc are all still open.  

Hosting the MTBNZ National MTB Series 2025 is a fantastic chance to showcase the best of our local mountain biking community, trails, and facilities so lets get behind the Taupō Mountain Bike club and support this great event.
