The ‘MOON CROSSING’ is officially open!

As part of the rebuild within Craters Mountain Bike Park, we have had many sponsors, partners and just good buggers jumping in and getting the job done.

We are extremely proud of our longstanding relationship with The Craters of the Moon Trust who have sponsored the ‘Moon Crossing’ bridge on Tourist Trap and also helped us to replace lost traps within the park.

The damage from cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023 not only flattened the trees, but also resulted in the loss of over 50 traps within the park. By replacing the lost traps and extending the trap lines, we can continue to enhance pest control in Craters MTB Park. The trapping volunteers were very happy to get back on their trap lines! The traps which survived the cyclone are also now active again.

Some of the Craters of the Moon Trustees were with us to officially open the crossing and they had this to say… “Craters of the Moon Trust is pleased to support Bike Taupo by donating the “Moon Crossing” bridge for the Tourist Trap bike track, after it was destroyed in cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023.”

Thank you to the trust board members and to the hard working people who built the crossing and man the traps!

It was such a shame we weren’t able to catch a photo of the huge falcon flying overhead as that photo would have been priceless, however…. we think we got some great shots.

Ride the bridge…. enjoy the trails.
