Craters Mountain Bike Park Update.
Hello to all our members, supporters and partners, thank you for your continued support.
We know you are all keen to get an update on the status of Craters Mountain Bike Park.
As you are aware, Cyclone Gabrielle had a significant impact on the park and is currently CLOSED.
To reiterate, our permit is still suspended so please do not enter the park or we risk losing it permanently.
On a positive note, we are pleased to advise that forestry logging has now begun!
But…. it’s a mammoth job!
To give you some perspective, on average, the logging crew might log around 7,000 tons per month, their total job at present is approximately 48,000 tons!
We need to rebuild, or repair nearly 25km of single track but it’s a significant amount of work and it will take time.
It’s still not the right the time for any volunteers with shovels or chainsaws to go anywhere near the park but we can now begin to plan the rebuild of the tracks and for that, we need funding.
The more funds we can raise, the greater the resources we can put into the rebuild.
We will be applying to central government through a Tourism Infrastructure Fund to assist the re build, they will match dollar for dollar on anything we contribute.
If you give us $10.00, they can give us $10.00 and every little bit will help.
Get in touch with Bike Taupō to discuss further.
There is something pretty great about being part of a rebuild and knowing you played a part in the resurrection of our trails and park and made such a contribution to our community. .Thank you
Remember that even with Craters closed, there are plenty of trails to explore.
