Kids Bike Taupō Update
The Kids Bike Taupō programme visits all schools across Taupō and provides 3 kids bike sessions per week at 3 different locations across the district. Families have the opportunity to come and learn to ride a bike using one of our bikes if required, or bring their own and just enjoy some friends and family time.
Our goal is to promote well being, a sense of achievement, healthy lifestyle choices and strengthened family bonds through cycling.
It’s not just the children who are learning and achieving many great skills, we also cater for adults returning to biking and maybe require a bike skills refresher!
Kids Bike Taupō continues to bring bikes to children so that most can learn to 'Ride By 5'.
Over the ten years that we have been operating, we have had an average of 8,400 'rides' a year.
The annual average is 291 people riding independently for the first time at our sessions! How cool is that?
All funding and donations received are greatly appreciated as we are a charity and do not charge for sessions so that everyone has the opportunity to learn to ride a bike and have this skill for the rest of their lives.
The benefits of this community programs aren't always easy to measure either but if you were take to just one daily positive outcome of the Kids Bike program and add them all up over time, it would equal a big success!!
You only have to be at one of these sessions to see how much fun the kids are having, see the parents are learning some new coaching skills and that is what it is all about!
We want our message to spread wide into the communities. We want to encourage kids to ride, who then encourage
their parents, who then encourage their friends to ride and so on and so on....
We can't just expect every person to know how to teach someone to ride a bike but we can help teach one person, who then teaches someone else and on it goes!
Kids Bike Taupō is all about giving more people opportunities to ride no matter where they're from or what their abilities are.
ALL sessions are free however a small koha is greatly appreciated.
All sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities however young children must be accompanied by an supervising adult.
If you have your own bikes and helmets, it helps but hose without bikes can use the KBT ones.
If the weather is dodgy we will try to notify cancellations on the BT Facebook Page.
No sessions on Public Holidays.
Please wear sensible biking clothes and covered in shoes. Bring water.
We look forward to seeing you there!
